Will Shilpa Shirodkar be a good ‘kaamwali bai’ on TV?

Deeya and Tony Singh’s production house DJ’s A Creative Unit launch a new show with Shilpa in the lead

The ’90s heroine Shilpa Shirodkar is all set to make a comeback to acting after a gap of 13 years. The actress will be making her TV debut in a yet-to-be-titled serial produced by Deeya and Tony Singh for Zee TV. The serial will revolve around the hopes and aspirations of domestic help Kamalabai played by Shilpa. The actress says, “The script was awesome. And having lived abroad I know how difficult life is without a domestic help. Having domestic help gives you the opportunity to do so much more, which is why I have a lot of respect for them. My character Kamalabai strives hard to bring up her children and see that they don’t do what she is doing. It’s about her struggle and experiences.”

Ask her what prompted her to opt for TV instead of films and she says she would love to do films too. “However, I cannot pick from what I left behind. Movies will happen, but right now I want to work hard and excel in my serial,” says the actress, who sizzled in films like Hum, Khuda Gawah and Gopi Kishen. Her last film was Gaja Gamini after which she tied the knot with businessman Aparesh and settled abroad. “I have been travelling to Holland, New Zealand and London where I stayed for seven years. I have been a full-time wife and mother and had a blast. The best part of it was I didn’t have to manage a diary (laughs).”

She came back to India a couple of years ago when her daughter Anushka was seven. “It took a while for her to adjust because it’s culturally very different. I had to be with her during that time, which is why I did not take up any work. Now she has adapted well and my in-laws are a good support system,” says the actress who has started shooting mock scenes as the rest of the cast is yet to be finalised.

Considering the kind of films that are being made today, would she have preferred to be a heroine now? “I am extremely proud of my work in the ’90s. I worked with great actors like Ashok Kumar, Dilipsaab, Amitabh Bachchan to newcomers like Saif (Ali Khan) who had entered films then. People know me because of that. Yes, movies have evolved today but unlike heroines of our time who had a shelf life of at least 15 years, today you see a lot of young girls coming in, doing a film and disappearing. There is no reliability or stability,” points out Shilpa.

Salman Khan’s Jumme Ki Raat from Kick versus Amitabh Bachchan’s Jumma Chumma!

If you are wondering why are we comparing these two songs then read on to find out…

Salman Khan is all set to have a grand launch for the first song titled Jumme ki raat from his upcoming film, Kick this afternoon. However, apart from the term ‘Jumma’, Sallu miyaan’s song very much reminds us of Amitabh Bachchan’s hit song Jumma chumma dede from Hum. We hope that the Dabangg Khan gives us a number, which is a worthy competition to Big B’s track.

If you have seen the trailer of Kick, you get a glimpse of Jumme ki raat. And Jacqueline Fernandez’ hot red outfit bears a stark resemblance to the one Kimi Katkar wore in the Hum song. Sallu’s antics on the other hand aren’t exactly like that of Sr Bachchan.

Though the first look of Jumme ki raat in the promo might remind us of Jumma chumma dede, we hope it becomes as popular as the latter. Well, all we can do is just wait and watch. Keep watching this space for Jumme Ki Raat from Salman Khan’s Kick!

Salman Khan: Am a huge fan of Amitabh Bachchan’s Jumma Chumma song

The Jai Ho star feels very proud that people are comparing his Jumme ki raat to the immortal Big B track

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has denied that there is any similarity between Jumme ki raat song from his upcoming film Kick and megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s popular number Jumma chumma dede from 1991 movie Hum. The word Jumma draws attention to the popular song from the action-drama, which featured Bachchan and heroine Kimi Katkar.

The 48-year-old actor, who unveiled the first look of the song Jumme ki raat, however, said the similarity ends with the word jumma. ”I knew this question will be asked. I am a big fan of Jumma chumma dede. Whenever the song comes on TV, I watch the whole number. But my song is shot differently. It is choreographed by Ahmed Khan. It is difficult to make me dance,” said Salman about his upcoming Eid release.

Penned by Kumaar and Shabbir Ahmed, song is sung by Mika Singh, Palak Muchhal and composed by Himesh Reshammiya. ”Only the word jumma is common in the song and the tune is different,” Reshammiya said, adding they are hoping the song becomes the biggest party anthem this Eid. Salman revealed that the other songs of the film will be out soon. ”This song was ready, so we showed it to you all. We are also shooting for another song called Hangover..,” he said. Kick marks Salman’s annual ‘Eid release’, which has been lucky for him as his previous hits Bodyguard, Dabangg and Dabangg 2 opened on Eid in the past.

On being asked what gives Salman ‘kick’ in real life, the actor said said, “There are lots of things that give me kick. Like when someone tries to show me down and I prove that person wrong. The enthusiasm, the kick that you get, pushes you to go up again. When someone praises me, I feel I should work more, so that I am praised more.” Salman’s scores of fans were present at the song launch event, which also comprised female fans who were seen shouting ‘Salman we love you’. ”I want to become ‘bhai’ and you all are saying no (pointing towards female fans). So it is decided…. I am bhai for boys and for my four sisters (two real and two rakhi sisters),” the actor said.

Rohit Shetty’s next project with Happy New Year actor is rumoured to be in a remake of Big B’s Hum

While the news of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol reuniting in a Rohit Shetty film has been making headlines, we have a latest scoop about the aforementioned film. Rumour has it that hitmaker Rohit Shetty is planning to reboot Amitabh Bachchan’s 1991 blockbuster Hum with Shah Rukh and Kajol in the lead roles.

A little birdie chirped to us that King Khan will be playing Big B’s character as the eldest brother in the remake. A source close to the director said, “Rohit’s next film, starring SRK, will be a remake of the ’90s hit film, Hum and currently, things are being finalised for the same.”

“For Govinda and Rajinikanth’s characters, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra are being considered but nothing has been finalised yet. Rohit is still working on the film’s script and Kajol will also be a part of this film,” added the source. It is being said that Singham Returns director is making a few changes to the original to accommodate Kajol’s character in the film.

If you jog your memory a little, there were rumours about a month ago that Chennai Express filmmaker was rebooting Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi with Shah Rukh, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. If the sources are to be believed, then it looks like Hum has ousted Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi in flooring Rohit Shetty, prompting him to remake the old hit.

Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol’s next not a remake of Hum

Rohit Shetty’s new project is about three brothers but it’s not a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s Hum

It has been reported that Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are coming together in Rohit Shetty’s next. However, the director maintains that so far the script is not ready and all he knows is that SRK is in his film. He hasn’t even written the heroine’s part. So, at this point, it’s probably wishful thinking on the part of Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol fans, given that it has been four years since the beloved jodi’s last outing together, My Name is Khan (2010).

Teen bhai

Now there is a strong buzz that Rohit’s next is the remake of Hum (1991). Initial reports said it was a Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi remake. The common thing between the two films is that it is a story of three brothers. Both films have another thing in common — they are both family entertainers — which is Rohit’s forte. However an insider maintains, “Rohit’s next is a story of three brothers but it is not a Hum remake.”

The new team

Hum, directed by Mukul Anand, had three brothers played byAmitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth and Govinda. Says our source, “In Rohit’s film, SRK will play the eldest brother while Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor are being considered to play the roles of his younger brothers.”

The patch-up

A source says, “SRK and Kajol recently met on a flight and chatted for two hours. They spoke about the role he had in mind for her in Rohit’s next. Of course, like all Rohit’s films, perhaps only the basic concept from the original will be used. Like Golmaal 3 and Bol Bachchan were remakes of Khatta Meetha and Gol Maal respectively. Rohit also wants to remake Angoor. ”

Birthday special: Amitabh Bachchan’s 5 path-breaking songs!

The mega star, who turns 72 today, has sung and danced to many a songs but here are five songs which introduced Bollywood to something new, for the very first time…

Amitabh Bachchan‘s songs have been played over and over again by all. Be it the older lot or the younger generation, everyone loves his songs. Songs from his yesteryear hits have been on our playlists for years, but on his 72nd birthday we decided to have a look at some of his recent hits. Here are five songs that the mega star has been a part of in the recent days, which were unique in their respective manner.

Bbuddah hoga terra baap

Sung by Amitabh himself, this song was an acapella from Big B’s film Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap. This song had all the music given by Amitabh himself via his vocals. It was one of its kind and no one had ever tried such a thing in B-Town ever. AB was the very first person to do so and he did it with panache. After Big B, many people followed suit, but it was he who made it memorable.

Ekla chalo re

Sung by Amitabh, this song is a very old Bengali Rabindra Sangeet, which was written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore during the Indian independence war. The song suited perfectly the tone of Vidya Balan’s Kahaani and the makers decided to get it sung by Big B to get the needed effect. No one in history has used Rabindra Sangeet in Hindi films before. Amitabh Bachchan was the first one to bring it to Bollywood.

Aladin Genie rap

Sung by Amitabh and Anushka Manchandani, this was a rap song that Big B tried for Riteish Deshmukh’s Aladin. It was an innovation in itself. The song introduced the character of genie in the film and Amitabh gave the perfect touch to it by rapping like a hipster. There were hardly some great rap numbers in Hindi when Big B sung this song. What so unique you may wonder. Well Big B was the first Bollywood actor to perform a rap for his own film.

Mere paa

This song was from his superhit film Paa. The quirky steps of this song became so popular that many other actors tried peroerming the same on stage, but failed miserably. This song had an instrumental version as well, which was the background score for the film. The song is unique as it was the first time Amitabh and Abhishek were dancing together in thie R Balki film, but they were not playing father and son in the general way, their roles had been reversed.

Party with the Bhootnath

Sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh and Amitabh, this song from Big B’s latest hit, Bhootnath Returns, became a rage with fans of both the stars. Yo Yo is known for giving party numbers and this party number rocked in every sense. The music, the cinematography, the lyrics and the foot tapping choreography, all comes well in a circle with this track. This was the first time a veteran actor such as him, decided to sing alongside the rap star Honey Singh.

BollywoodLife wishes Senior Bachchan a very happy birthday and hopes that he keeps entertaining us for many more years to come.

Amitabh Bachchan: Shamitabh and Abhimaan are not similar

Big B talks about his latest film which is compared to his 1973 hit

The story of Shamitabh revolves around the ego clash between two characters but Amitabh Bachchan says it bears no similarity with his 1973 hit Abhimaan.
In Abhimaan, Bachchan and Jaya played singers who get married. Their marriage, however, hits the rock when the husband finds it hard to deal with the growing popularity of his wife.

Abhimaan was the story of a couple where the wife was more talented than her husband. In Shamitabh it’s a story of two people. One person having something which the other person doesn’t. Then comes the role of Akshara, who is a journalist. She is the one who will evaluate the two and get them to come together. The story is around these two people and their egos,” Bachchan said in an interview.

Directed by R Balki, who has worked with Bachchan in Cheeni Kum and Paa, the film also stars Dhanush and Akshara Haasan. It will release on February 6. The trailer of Shamitabh shows the actor in a drunk state. Bachchan who has played similar roles in SharabiDo Anjaane,  Amar Akbar Anthony and Hum among many others, said he delivers such scenes without touching the alcohol.

“He (his Shamitabh character) is frustrated in his life and sometime he takes the help of alcohol. There were many roles in the past where I had played such scenes but in every film the situations and the characters are different. Thus changes the way you perform on screen.

“But, I strictly believe that drinking alcohol is not good for an actor. There are some actors who drink before doing such a scene but I don’t believe in that and will never do that,” Bachchan said. 2014 was a busy year for the 72-year-old actor as he shot back-to-back films like Shamitabh, Wazir and Piku besides shooting his TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati.

“I am an artist. There are different looks for each film and I enjoyed working in them,” said Bachchan, who collaborated with a Hollywood make-up artiste besides his make up Man Friday Deepak Sawant to create the unkempt look in his upcoming film.

The two superstars have worked together in many films in the past…

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Sunday announced and welcomed the return of veteran actor Kader Khan to the glitz and glamour of showbiz after a break from the arclights. “Kader Khan… great colleague, writer, contributor to many of my successful films… returns to film after a long hiatus! Welcome,” Amitabh tweeted on Sunday.

However, the 72-year-old kept the suspense element intact by not revealing the name of the film with which Kader Khan will make his comeback. Kader Khan last acted in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and a couple of inconsequential films two years later. Early this year, he made a comeback in Arjun Kapoor-starrer Tevar which bombed at the box-office.

Bachchan’s announcement caused a frenzy on the virtual platform. One user welcomed the news with a post that read: “@SrBachchan Wow! Legendary actor writer Kader Khan ji welcome Back! God bless him”. Another user shared: “@SrBachchan This is welcome news. In fact, glad you have acknowledged Kader Khan’s contributions to your growth and Indian Cinema.”

From negative roles to comedy to character roles, Kader Khan has portrayed diverse characters on screen in his career spanning over four decades. He has worked in over 350 films, including Coolie, Baap Numbri, Beta Dus Numbri, Hum, Bol Radha Bol, Aankhen, Raja Babu and Judwaa.

Kader Khan, in his late 70s, has so far been a victim of death hoaxes several times.

Popular Bollywood actor from the 90’s, Shiva Rindani to make his comeback with Kavach!

Shiva is best known for his negative role in the 1991 film Hum, starring Amitabh Bachchan.

The upcoming horror-thriller show Kavach that will soon air on Colors TV is fast finalising their cast. Kavach will basically be another supernatural show dealing with possession. After the promo showing a preview of the show with Mona Singh, Vivek Dahiya and Mahek Chahal playing as lead actors, other actors are being roped in for other characters of the show as well.

The last we heard, veteran actors like Ashwini Kalsekar and Rajita Kochar have joined the Kavach team. And Balaji Telefilms seems to be on the lookout for the best in the industry. So, another popular face of the 90’s has joined the cast. It’s none other than actor Shiva Rindani.

Shiva began his acting career with the 1981 film Chashme Baddoor. He is best known for his negative role of Captain Stack in the 1991 film, Hum that starred Amitabh Bachchan. Shiva has other films like Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Bees Saal Baad and Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet in his kitty.

Buzz is that the role of Vivek Dahiya’s uncle is going to be an important and powerful one. Since Shiva is known for his villainous roles from the past, should we expect another negative performance here? We will have to wait and watch the show.

Kavach will be replacing the current top-rated show Naagin on Colors TV. Will it do as good as Naagin? Keep reading for more news on Kavach…

In his career so far, Ittefaq is Sidharth Malhotra‘s first remake movie. Directed by BR Chopra’s son, the film is a remake of the Rajesh Khanna starrer. However, if given a chance, Sid has another film whose remake he’d like to be a part of! Well, remake has become quite a in-thing. A lot of remakes are being made recently. Be it Varun Dhawan’s Judwaa 2 or Sidharth Malhotra’s Ittefaq. However, if given a chance, Sid would rather love to be a part of a modern day rendition of Amitabh Bachchan‘s ensemble starrer Hum! The same film that holds the famous Jumma Chumma song.

According to a report on DNA, the actor revealed that if any movie is in his mind for a remake, he would like to do Hum. Says Sid, “I would love to star in a modern-day Hum. That is an absolute favourite of mine from the 1990s.” He also explained why he would like to be a part of that specific film and that definitely includes Big B and Kimi Katkar’s song! He says, the movie “had the right blend of action, romance and emotions,” and adds, “Plus, I would also get to dance on Jumma Chumma, which would be a dream come true.”
